The Department of Political Science was established in the year 1984 with the objective of providing quality higher education in the field of Political Science and fostering critical understanding of political processes, institutions, and contemporary issues. Since its inception, the department has aimed to create an academically stimulating environment that promotes analytical thinking, democratic values, and responsible citizenship among students.
The Undergraduate programme in Political Science commenced in the academic session 1984–85. Since then, the department has consistently worked toward enhancing curriculum delivery, strengthening foundational knowledge, and integrating innovative teaching-learning methodologies. The UG programme follows the semester examination and evaluation system, which enables continuous assessment, academic progression, and regular feedback for students. Through a blend of theoretical and practical components, the programme prepares students for competitive examinations, higher education, and careers in public administration, civil society, journalism, and related fields.
The Postgraduate programme was introduced in the academic session 2014–15 to offer advanced knowledge, specialised study, and research-oriented learning in Political Science. The PG curriculum is designed to deepen students’ understanding of political theory, international relations, public policy, comparative politics, and emerging global issues. Like the UG programme, the PG programme also operates under the semester examination and evaluation system, ensuring a rigorous, structured, and outcome-based academic framework. The programme encourages students to engage in seminars, presentations, field studies, and research projects that enhance their academic competence and analytical skills.
