"Shikshan he Waghiniche dudh ahe, jo te prashan karel toh gurgurlya shivay rahanar nahi" ( "Education is like a tigress’s milk; only the brave can drink it." ) This revolutionary thought was articulated by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, the great social reformer who dedicated his life to fighting for the rights of the underprivileged. The legacy of visionaries like Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar, Chhatrapati Shahu Maharaj, and Mahatma Phule is carried forward with dedication by Shri Dadasaheb Gawai and Dr. Kamaltai Gawai, who laid the foundation of - Shri Dadasaheb Gawai Charitable Trust, Amravati. The Trust is committed to the upliftment of students, particularly those from underprivileged and economically disadvantaged backgrounds. The Trust has established several educational institutions that serve a wide spectrum of academic and social needs. These include Educational and Technical Institutes, Teacher Training Institute, Pharmacy College, the Sanjeevani Health Centre, and an internationally recognized Vipassana (Meditation) Centre. The Trust aims at holistic personality development by offering platforms not only for academic growth but also for nurturing creativity, developing talents, instilling mindfulness through Vipassana, and cultivating a sense of social responsibility. Offering programs across diverse streams—Arts, Commerce, Science, H.S.C. Vocational, Management, and Computer Applications—the Trust is now regarded as one of the leading educational institutions in the Vidarbha region.

A small sapling planted by Shri Dadasaheb Gawai who was a true leader of the people, has now grown into a flourishing tree through the untiring efforts and unwavering commitment of Hon’ble Acharya Mrs. Kamaltai Gawai and Hon’ble Mrs. Kirti Rajesh Arjun. Takshashila Mahavidyalaya, Amravati was established on 20th June 1984 and is affiliated with Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University, Amravati. Over the years, the college has made significant strides in academics, sports, and cultural activities. It is accredited with a ‘B’ grade by NAAC, Bengaluru.The college offers a broad range of courses: Junior College: Std. XI and XII (Arts, Commerce, and Science), H.S.C. Vocational Courses Undergraduate Programs: B.A., B.Com., B.Sc , B.B.A , B.J.M.C. (Journalism).Postgraduate Programs: M.A. in Pali-Prakrit, History, Political Science, and Marathi; M.Com. Students may also pursue Y.C.M.O.U., Nasik programs such as B.Com. (Marathi/English medium) and M.A. (English, Marathi, and Economics).In the Science stream, the college offers postgraduate courses affiliated with SGBAU, Amravati:M.Sc. in Mathematics, Physics, and Computer Science, along with an M.B.A. program.

The college also offers UGC-recognized programs such as the UGC Network Centre, Certificate Course in Human Rights, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Study Centre, and other skill-development courses including Certificate in Communication Skills and Certificate in Translation Proficiency, all designed to equip students for global challenges.

Additionally, the college has Research Centres affiliated with Sant Gadge Baba Amravati University in the subjects of English, Marathi, Pali, Economics, Sociology,Commerce and Physical Education, where many scholars are pursuing their doctoral degrees.

In line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the college introduced NEP-based programs starting from the academic session 2024–25. Admissions for the session 2025–26 will follow this policy framework. A new integrated B.Com. LL.B. program is being launched from the academic year 2025–26, further expanding opportunities for aspiring students.
