About the Department

The foundation of Takshashila Mahavidyalaya, in Amravati in 1984 under the meticulous, dynamic foresight and most potential leadership and vision of Honourable Shri Dadasaheb Gawai, Founder of Shri Dadasaheb Gawai Charitable Trust. Since, its inception the Department of English plays an important role in establishing relevant specializations such as English Language, English Literature, Soft Skills, Communication skills etc.

Objective

The central objective of this programme is to enrich our students with communication and reading skills in English. English Department is a guide to those who wants to explore the world of literature. The Department has a full fledged Language Lab. The Department aims to prepare every student professionally fit for placement programmes in every academic year.We provide Add on course and bridge courses to familiarize our students with the course and curriculum.

Program Outcome

Developing intellectual, personal, and professional abilities through effective communicative skills; ensuring high standards of behavioral attitude through literary subjects and shaping the students into socially responsible citizens.
Enhancing employability of the students by developing their linguistic competence and communicative skills.

Programme Specific Outcome

Upon successful completion of the Programme, the students will be accurate both in oral and written communication as they will be strong in Grammar and its usage.
They can express a thorough command of English and its linguistic structures.
They can apply critical frameworks to analyze the linguistic, cultural, and historical background of texts written in English.
They will be familiar with the conventions of diverse textual genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, autobiography, biography, journal, film, plays, editorials, etc.

To expose students to the best examples of prose and poetry in English so that they realize the beauty and communicative power of English.
To develop the ability to appreciate ideas and think critically.
To expose students to the best examples of literature in English and to contribute to their emotional quotient as well as independent thinking and to instill universal human values through the best pieces of literature in English.
To revise and reinforce the learning of some important areas of grammar for better linguistic competence.
To enable students to become competent users of English in real-life situations.
To expose students to varied cultural experiences through literature.
To contribute to their overall personality development by improving their communicative and soft skills.
